Subject: ADS PC licenses
February 12, 2001
Dear Dr. Fritz Zaucker,
Important information for customers using ADS PC node-locked licenses
ADS 1.5 contains a newer version of the FlexLM license management software
than ADS 1.3. The newer version offers greater security and compatibility
with other software packages you may have using FlexLM license management
software. There is, however, one potential problem that we would like to
make you aware as a result of the newer license management software. Some
PC users with node-locked licenses may see a significant decrease in the
apparent speed performance of ADS 1.5 relative to ADS 1.3. This letter
contains two simple fixes to this performance issue that you can implement
on your own. You only need to implement one of these fixes. These fixes
may also improve performance for users of ADS 1.3.
The performance problem is caused when the FlexLM license management
software tries to search for an undefined license server. This will cause
ADS to just sit still for about 30 seconds while checking for a license.
To eliminate this problem, FlexLM must be directed to ignore the search
for a license server or must be explicitly told that your own PC is its
own license server. This is done by editing the license file.
The license file is normally called license.dat and located in the
C:\AdvDesSys1.5\licenses\ folder. The first several lines will generally
look as follows:
SERVER unknown 0010A4E82A6B 1700
DAEMON hpeesofd c:\advdessys1.5\licenses\vendors\hpeesofd.exe \
c:\advdessys1.5\licenses\vendors\options\hpeesofd.opt
or, if you have a hardware key, they would look similar to this
SERVER unknown SENTINEL_KEY=36C74544 1700
DAEMON hpeesofd /eesof/licenses/vendors/hpeesofd \
/eesof/licenses/options/local.options
Solution 1) The easiest solution is to just delete these SERVER and DAEMON
lines.
Solution 2) Change "unknown" to show the network name for your PC. This
can be found in the Control Panel under the Network icon on the
Identification tab. If your PC's name is myPC123, you would change the
license file to read as follows:
SERVER myPC123 0010A4E82A6B 1700
Solution 2 would be required if you also had floating licenses on your PC.
If you would like assistance with removing these lines, you can send your
license.dat file to the Business Support Center at ceda_bsc@agilent.com
with a brief note asking for the SERVER and DAEMON lines to be removed, or
you contact your codeword administrator.
